Matt 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Three titles in one verse, "Jesus Christ --- Son of David --- Son of Abraham." Abraham was the head of the covenant nation. God had given to him the promise that in his seed all nations of the earth be blessed. Jesus submitted to the Hebrew law in righteousness. He lived as a Hebrew, He preached to the Hebrews. He died for the Hebrews as well as for all the people. "So then, they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham" (Gal 3:9). How wonderful! God manifested in the flesh as Abraham's seed and yet the One who made the promise to Abraham!
Oh, Thou promised seed of Abraham and Son of God, our Savior, hold us fast in Thy Word. Amen.
