Matt 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Our Lord was a lineal descendant of David, the King. This entitled Him to the right of sovereignty over David's land, and when He was here among men, we are told, there was no other claimant to the throne of David. Herod sought to destroy the Child-King, Jesus, but Egypt was chosen as a refuge place for Him. The heart of Herod was like the hearts of all the children of men who will not have Him to rule over them. He was bearing us upon His heart, as a Child, for He is the same "yesterday, today and forever," and He is our refuge now.
Jesus Christ, son of David, may our hearts be linked up with Thy great heart always. Amen.
