By Bible Names of God
Gene 49:24 But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty [God] of Jacob; (from thence [is] the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
Jacob is on his deathbed. His thoughts are going back to his flight from the wrath of his brother Essau, when --- as the sun went down --- he took of the stones of the field for his pillow. And then he thought of all God had been to him since --- a sure foundation upon which he had built his life. This expression --- used first by Jacob --- is repeated over and over again in the Word of God and finds an echo in our own hearts who have found in Jesus Christ a "fountain which standeth sure" against all the assaults of the enemy of our souls.
Oh, Thou Who art the Might God of Jacob, The Shepherd, The Stone of Israel, grant to us the Victory which is sure to those who trust Thee. Amen.
