And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)
Abel had understood that God required a spotless lamb for a sacrifice and that was his offering. Cain made the fatal error of equating an offering of fruits and vegetables, to and blood sacrifice; knowing full-well God's requirement, but tried to usurp God's word and offered an insulting offering to God which God called SIN. It could easily have happened that Cain could have 'traded' or made a deal, that would have given him a Lamb as well. We have no such record of Cain attempting to do what he could to make God's demand. He simply tried God, and Cain was found wanting.
Further Cain added insult to injury by becoming wroth when God would no accept it. Later Cain became so angry that he rose up and slew his brother. Sin was lying at the door and Cain yielded to it. Now we find God calling Cain's name and asking him about what he had done. Selfish answers were given. Scripture says that Cain was of that wicked one the devil.
As time passed, God began to see man turning from Him until every imagination of man was only evil continually. He said in Genesis 6:3, "my Spirit will not always strive with man." God's Spirit had become so quinched and grieved that God declared He would not be around forever. Finding only one family who was righteous in the whole world, God commanded Noah to build and Ark and God destroyed the earth. From there on as a further attempt to limit mans iniquity He reduced man's life span to 120 years.
2) COVENANT AND LAW
For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a free woman. But he that was of the bond woman was born after the flesh; but he that was of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory, FOR THESE ARE THE TWO COVENANTS; the one from Mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Hagar. Now we brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise (Galatians 4:22-24,28).
God gave to Abraham a covenant which is called CIRCUMCISION; that is; Circumcision of the Heart. Which had a token which was in His flesh. Circumcision was to be performed on the eighth day of a male child, and symbolized the Covenant. That this man has His Heart Circumcised of its flesh (carnal nature), and God is writing His Laws upon the Fleshly (not carnal nature, but flesh as in body) Tables of the HEART (II Corinthians 3:3). As it is also written: 'For he is not a Jew which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the Flesh. But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and Circumcision is that of the Heart, (in the Spirit and not in the letter) whose praise is not of men but of God' (Romans 2:28-29).
